I knew temps would be marginal and I was right with overnights in the high 40s/low 50s and daytimes high70s/mid 80s. So, activity was down but I got to see the lay of the land for future excursions.

I did have a little luck though being introduced to a lizard I have wanted forever and so far been able to enjoy only vicariously. Not only that, he was kind enough to pose for a few pics! Something I never expected of this fast, wary species.

What a treat they are these Collared Lizards, even more impressive than I thought they'd be, especially in the way they move! Very cool indeed.

Here's a few pics.

I also made a stop by some hills in the Barstow area, took a few hours to search the rocky slopes and desert and ran into this old-timer munching on some juicy greens.

Also had a handful of Side-blotched, one Tiger Whiptail and one Desert Spiny Lizard at that location...oh yeah, and one Chukar teed-up on a rock pinnacle along with others "chucking" in the background. Never realized that their calls are very similar to a ground squirrel "chuck".
