California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)
California Kingsnake, Lampropeltis getula californiae

Cruised this girl near Weldon, CA. Presumably a hatch from 2006. Cool snake but a troublesome feeder which definitely requires brumation. She escaped once in her first winter here and showed up in the hall about 3 months later, seemingly no worse for wear and pretty much a similar weight. She started eating right away but then turned-off again around mid-summer. I put her down again the next winter (2008-2009) and she came out fine and ate well. This winter I put her down again and so far she's been slow to take but has eaten twice. She's also been especially active so I'm beginning to think she is a he??? Hmmm, gotta find out.

Jun. 15th, 2007 - This is the morning after I found her. I thought she was a pure B&W but soon she shifted dark brown and cream.

Jun. 7th, 2009

Mar. 28th, 2010 - She's always been a pain to photograph.
